DIY: BRUSH CLEANER ($$$ SAVING TIP)

Brush cleaning day. Everyone dreads it, especially if you have looooads of brushes to wash! Depending on the cleaner you use, it can get pretty expensive. Today I'll be showing you my recipe on how I make my own brush cleaner to save a few $$$. Saving money is always a bonus, so what better than to spend $10 and make 3x the formula a $15 bottle has? Really it's a win win situation to make your own at home.
The recipe is VERY basic and takes less than 5 minutes to make. You can adjust the amounts to make more or less, whatever you desire. Also, all the ingredients can be found at any grocery/drugstore. No more hectic trips to the mall for overpriced brush shampoo!

The amount that I'm showing would fill a bottle of MAC's brush cleaner (235mL), but you can definitely adjust the measurements.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  •  1 tbsp Olive Oil
  •  1/8-1/4 cup Alcohol*
  •  1 tbsp Baby Shampoo
  •  1 cup Water
  •  1/2 tbsp Dishwashing soap

*Depending on the percentage of Alcohol you have, you'll want more or less to ensure you don't dry out the fragile brushes. If you have a higher percent you'd want to use less, and a lower percent use more. I had 99% and only used 1/8 of a cup.

When you have your ingredients, add them all together and you're good to go! I recommend to carefully roll the bottle on it's side to mix the ingredients, instead of shaking it. If you shake the bottle too much the soap and shampoo will bubble, and you'll have to wait before using it. You could even put the ingredients into a spray bottle, and use it as a brush cleaner on the go.
This is what you'll end up with. If you have a problem with the olive oil floating to the top, gently roll the bottle before using to stir up the ingredients.

I find this DIY cleaner does a better job than MAC's brush cleaner, for almost half the price! Also doesn't have such a strong alcohol smell, and the added olive oil helps condition the hair and prevent breaking. Hope you try it out and enjoy! Thanks for reading
